The Different Types

There are three different types of camcorder batteries, and when you are choosing the best digital camcorder battery, usually there is no worry, for it normally comes with the camcorder when you purchase it. The three types are NiCad, NiMH and Li-ion.

NiCAD, or Nickel Cadmium, batteries are the older cell type and can be found in older cameras and camcorders, as well as others such as laptops and toys. This type of battery can handle higher loads, and so mostly it would be found in those high-powered cameras which need a lot of power to work efficiently. On the other hand, NiMH or the Nickel Metal Hydride is currently the most famous and widely used cell type batteries. This type of digital camcorder battery is generally cheaper than the other types, and so it needs more maintenance than others as well. The third digital camcorder battery type is the Li-ion or the Lithium Ion battery. Generally this battery is very light and very expensive, but it can provide as much power as a NiCAD battery can supply.
